Police Service and University enter into innovative agreement

The Faculty of Commerce at the University of Wollongong and the NSW Police
Service have entered into an innovative agreement for the conduct of special
projects in Information Systems. A signing ceremony will be held tomorrow (Thursday
21 December) to formally recognise the agreement.
The special projects will be on problems identified by the Police Service from
the South Eastern Regional Command.
"This will give Information Systems students the opportunity to use their
skills with a real world client," the Dean of the Faculty of Commerce,
Professor Rob Castle said.
"This type of project experience is invaluable for students and makes a
contribution to the community."
Representatives from the NSW Police Service attending the signing ceremony will
be Assistant Commissioner Christine Nixon; Acting Commander Michael Tranby;
Superintendent Gary Dobson; Area Manager for the Wollongong Police Station,
Kirsten Hort; and Chief Inspector Charles Pasfield.
Representatives from the University of Wollongong will be the Dean of Commerce,
Professor Rob Castle; and Professor Graham Winley and Mr Peter Hyland from the
Department of Information Systems.
