Campus East head shave for CanTeen
17 October 2001
Students from a range of countries at the University of Wollongong's Campus East
have banded together to raise funds and awareness for CanTeen (the Australian
Teenage Cancer Patients Society Ltd).
CanTeen supports young people aged between 12 and 24 years of age who are affected
directly by cancer, whether they are a patient or have a sibling who is a patient.
To show support and raise funds for the cause, Campus East is selling bandannas
up to 26 October and will hold a sponsored head shave tomorrow (Thursday 18 October)
for National Bandanna Day on 29 October.
To date, 20 students and one staff member have volunteered to have their heads
shaved. Head shave participants are male and female from countries including Australia,
America, Singapore, China, Kenya, France and Colombia.
Donations on behalf of the Campus East staff and students may be sent directly
to CanTeen's Wollongong Office, or to Campus East for forwarding to CanTeen.
Donations may be sent to Thidarat Thongdang at Campus East, PO Box 219 Fairy Meadow,
NSW, 2519.
Media please note: The "international" head shave will take place
at 10.30am, Thursday 18 October in the Casuarina Room at Campus East, Fairy Meadow.
