Legal
fraternity reunite to celebrate faculty's 10th anniversary
6
December 2001
Two current judges
and the Deputy President of the Administrative Appeals Tribunal will be among
the guests at the 10th anniversary dinner celebrations for the Faculty of Law
to be held at the University of Wollongong on Saturday 8 December.
Of the three former
Deans of the Faculty, two (Emeritus Professor Judge John Goldring and Emeritus
Professor [to be conferred next week] Judge Helen Gamble) are on the District
Court bench, and Robin Handley is Deputy President of the Administrative Appeals
Tribunal. Since its first student intake in 1991, the Faculty has achieved a
national and international profile for its legal education and its graduates.
In 1991 the Faculty
of Law had an intake of 75 first-year students. In 2001, about 150 students
completed first year. By next Thursday's graduation ceremony (13 December),
the faculty will have about 400 graduates. Those graduates are employed as follows:
33% public sector, 33% private practice, 11% working overseas and 22% business
sector. The Faculty's achievements include independent national surveys showing
that it is the only law school in NSW with full graduate employment. The faculty
is a national leader in skills training and holds an enviable record in winning
national and international competitions.
