Illawarra this week for an international statistics conference being held at
the University of Wollongong (UOW).
The International
Conference on Statistics, Combinatorics and Related Areas and The Eighth International
Conference of the Forum for Interdisciplinary Mathematics is being held at UOW
from December 19 to 21.
Professor Rao was
awarded an Honorary Doctor of Science degree from UOW yesterday, Monday 17 December.
He also gave the occasional address to students at the Faculty of Informatics
graduation ceremony. He has also accepted an invitation to be the first visiting
professional fellow of the Institute for Mathematical Modelling and Computational
Systems at the University.
A professor of
statistics at Pennsylvania State University in the US, he has published more
than 500 works in diverse areas of pure and applied statistics, in numerical
matrix analysis and in areas of direct application. The conference starts tomorrow,
