Primary teaching students launch two scientific projects
19 October 2001
The Faculty of
Education is conducting two innovative events next week both of which relate
to projects by the Faculty's trainee primary teaching students in the teaching
of science:
Project
1 will be held on Monday 22 October from 9.30am to 1.30pm in the Foyer of the
McKinnon Building (Bldg 67) and involves a display of big books made by the
students. The design is novel as they are based on a fictional storyline (narrative)
with factual information (science knowledge) that has been embedded in pop-up
constructions (technology). They are aimed at primary children and attempt to
blend fiction with fact as a classroom resource.
Project
2 (the inaugural "Young Einstein Science Fair") will be held on Wednesday
24 October from 9.30am to 12.30pm at Nareena Hills Public School. This will
involve 300 gifted and talented primary students from seven schools around Figtree
being engaged in a science fair conducted by 160 students from the Faculty of
Education. The fair will have 60 hands-on workstations set up for the children
to conduct experiments.
