Employment prospects
for Wollongong students are tops
12-December-2002
Employment prospects
for University of Wollongong graduates are significantly better than for
bachelor graduates nationally and in those in NSW.
Figures released
yesterday by the Graduate Careers Council of Australia (GCCA) show that
UOW has a full-time employment rate of 93.3 per cent against a national
figure of 83 per cent. The figures for Wollongong are also better than
the NSW figure of 84.5 per cent.
Executive Director
of the Graduate Careers Council of Australia, Mr Roger Bartley, will be
available to discuss the findings of the 2001 Graduate Destination Survey,
when he is on campus today (Wednesday December 11, 2002) to attend the
opening of the University Careers Centre new 'shopfront' location.
The Centre, which
promotes a self access approach for students, will be officially opened
by University of Wollongong Vice-Chancellor, Professor Gerard Sutton.
Coordinator of the Careers Service, Martin Smith, said the major focus
for the move was to bring the services, resources and programs offered
by the Careers Service to the immediate attention of the campus community.
"Students will be
able to access a range of hard copy resources as well as computers for
career research via the internet and related job seeking activities. The
new premises also includes a multi purpose room for conducting small training
sessions for students, or can be used by employers when they come on campus
to interview appropriate students," Mr Smith said.
