Engineering
prize presentation and demonstration of winning models
4-November-2002
Student inventors
from the University of Wollongong and Illawarra and Southern Sydney high
schools have built ingenious models that convert energy from a swinging
arm to transport open containers of water as quickly as possible without
too much spillage.
How did the high
school students match up to their older university counterparts?
Competition organiser,
Associate Professor Peter Wypych, said the theme of the competition was
energy conversion and sustainable energy. Integral Energy, the Faculty
of Engineering and the Illawarra Chapter of the Maintenance Engineering
Society of Australia sponsored the prizes and trophies.
Representatives of
these various organisations will make the official presentations to the
UOW and high school winners at 12.30pm tomorrow (Wednesday 30 October)
in the Faculty of Engineering Atrium (Building 4, ground floor). Immediately
after the presentations, some of the winning teams will demonstrate their
devices using the actual swing arm and test track
