Launch recognises Illawarra's Spanish community

13-December-2002

A book launch will be held in Wollongong today (Thursday 12 April) marking the completion of a two-year study of the Spanish community in the Illawarra.

The book's editor is Josep Maria Cufi Gali. He is the Spanish government sponsored Spanish Lecturer who has been teaching at the University of Wollongong since 1998.

The book's English title is: "My grandparents: Spain destination Wollongong, 1960-2002". Among the guests will be the Educational Adviser of the Spanish Embassy, Teresa Gracia. Spanish language is taught at the Spanish School in the Illawarra and at the University of Wollongong.

More students from the Spanish School are furthering their Spanish study at the University and this is being further facilitated by the development of the Spanish language program at UOW with the offering of second year subjects from Autumn 2003.

Funding for the book has come from Wollongong City Council and the NSW Department of School Education, Board of Studies.

Launch time and venue: 3pm Thursday 12 December, Wollongong City Art Gallery.

For further information contact Dr Elizabeth Thomson, Convener of the Program of Modern Languages, University of Wollongong, on 4221 4002.
