Illawarra's Spanish community

A book launch will
be held in Wollongong today (Thursday 12 April) marking the completion
of a two-year study of the Spanish community in the Illawarra.
The book's editor
is Josep Maria Cufi Gali. He is the Spanish government sponsored Spanish
Lecturer who has been teaching at the University of Wollongong since 1998.
The book's English
title is: "My grandparents: Spain destination Wollongong, 1960-2002".
Among the guests will be the Educational Adviser of the Spanish Embassy,
Teresa Gracia. Spanish language is taught at the Spanish School in the
Illawarra and at the University of Wollongong.
More students from
the Spanish School are furthering their Spanish study at the University
and this is being further facilitated by the development of the Spanish
language program at UOW with the offering of second year subjects from
Autumn 2003.
Funding for the book
has come from Wollongong City Council and the NSW Department of School
Education, Board of Studies.
