Treasurer to
launch Innovation Week at Science Centre
03-May-2002
NSW Treasurer Hon
Michael Egan MLC will launch Innovation Week in Wollongong at the University
of Wollongong Science Centre in Fairy Meadow on Monday 6 May at 11am.
UOW Creative Arts
students will perform excerpts from their production "Love Dot Com"
at the launch, with costumes including Italian hand-crafted masks and
music of Monterverdi.
Visitors to the Science
Centre will also be able to view the Lawrence Hargrave exhibition, the
Hargrave model of the flying machine, a globe made by the Italian community
and several displays from research partners of the University of Wollongong.
These displays reveal innovations in education, media, health and biomedical
science, as well as intelligent polymers used in fabrics to convert sunlight
to electricity.
The Science Centre
is a major innovation for Wollongong, providing science literacy for the
people of southern NSW through the special combination of hands-on exhibits,
science shows, a planetarium and a public observatory. With around 100
interactive exhibits, a variety of presentations and laser shows, the
Science Centre demystifies the concepts behind science and technology
to make learning fun.
Among guests attending
the launch: Member for Wollongong, Mr Colin Markham; Wollongong Lord Mayor,
Cr George Harrison; and UOW Vice-Chancellor Gerard Sutton.
