University launches
Parents' Room
01-May-2002
While a community
debate continues on paid maternity leave, the University of Wollongong
will launch a Parents' Room on campus in collaboration with Wollongong
UniCentre.
The Parents' Room
will be launched tomorrow, Thursday May 2, in the University Hall foyer.
The launch will be
attended by Ms Fiona Krautil, Director of Equal Opportunity for Women
in the Workplace Agency (EOWA) and the University's Vice-Chancellor, Professor
Gerard Sutton. Members of the campus community and their families are
also invited to attend the launch.
The Parents' Room
has been established for the use of students and staff requiring a place
to attend to specific needs of young children and to meet the needs of
nursing mothers. The room is located on the ground floor of UniCente (Bld
11). It provides a quiet place to breastfeed, bottle feed or express milk
privately, a curtained off area for those requiring privacy, comfortable
seating, baby change table, hot and cold water, microwave, waste disposal
and a small play area for younger children.
Photo/filming opportunity:
The official launch starts 2.30pm in the University Hall foyer. Following
this, guided tours will be conducted of the new Parents' Room and Children's
Services Kids Uni North and South, the on-site child care facilities.
