Breakfast set to inspire high school students to excel
Aug 26, 2003
Year 11 students from the Illawarra and Sutherland Shire are set to be inspired by two of the country's top young achievers this Thursday 28 August, at the University of Wollongong's Role Model Breakfast at Novotel Northbeach. Adventurer, photographer and writer Tim Cope and entrepreneur and life coach Rachael Pickworth will recount their stories and experiences to the students at the Breakfast at the Novotel Northbeach in North Wollongong. 2002 Young Australian Adventurer of the Year, Tim Cope, has trained as a wilderness guide in the Arctic and forest regions of Finland and north-west Russia, cycled 10,000 kilometres across Russia and Mongolia and rowed a wooden boat through Siberia to the Arctic Ocean. Tim's passion for adventure and the road less travelled has been captured in his documentary and book released this year. Rachel Pickworth started her "Gifted" hamper business from her mother's lounge room in 1996 at the age of 22 and in the last seven years has made it into a major success, with retail stores, a corporate showroom and A-list clients including Citipower, ANZ, Telstra and Australia Post. Rachel has also been the recipient of numerous prestigious awards including the 2000 Business Bulletin's Entrepreneur of the Year, a 1999 inductee into the Australian Business Women's Hall of Fame and a 1999 Finalist in the Telstra Small Business Awards. The University of Wollongong has invited students from the Sutherland Shire's 19 high schools and Illawarra's 25 high schools to attend the breakfast, designed to offer inspiration and motivation to students preparing for their final year of school. It also gives the students from the two areas the opportunity to interact with each other, and discuss their hopes and dreams for the future.
