IPAC performance marks curtain call for UOW academic

Students from the University of Wollongong's [THEATRE] will present a short season of DH Lawrence's "Kangaroo" at the Bruce Gordon Theatre, IPAC to celebrate the career of long time academic and actor, Jeff Kevin who will retire from the University at the end of the year.

opens at IPAC tomorrow night, Wednesday 27 August, at 8pm.
Head of Performance at the University's Faculty of Creative Arts, Mr Kevin has extensive professional experience in acting, directing and teaching, areas in which he has worked since graduating from NIDA in 1967. He has appeared extensively on stage and in television but in recent years has increasingly concentrated on theatre, appearing in such plays as The Christian Brothers, Same Time Next Year, Twelfth Night, Richard III, and A Christmas Carol. The most recent stage appearances have been Hamlet, Time Gentleman and The Time Is Not Yet Ripe. He recently completed a television documentary for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation 'A Fine Body Of Gentleman' which follows fortunes of the Aboriginal Cricket Tour to England in the late 18th century. "Kangaroo" was written by English novelist DH Lawrence during a three-month stay at his residence in Thirroul in 1922. Lawrence deliberately isolated himself in the Illawarra to write this world-famous novel. This production celebrates the 80th anniversary of the novel's publication in 1923. It has been adapted for the stage by well known Australian playwright Justin Fleming, directed by John Senczuk, and designed by David Thomas, while the music is provided by Andrew Davidson.
