Former ACCC Chairman to deliver inaugural public Economic and Social Policy Lecture

The former Chairman of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), Professor Alan Fels, will present the first Economic and Social Policy Lecture to be held at the University of Wollongong tomorrow (Wednesday 10 September). The School plans to hold a major public lecture annually beginning with the lecture by Professor Fels. Professor Fels taught at Monash University before becoming Chairman of the Prices Surveillance Authority in 1989, adding the job of Chairman of the Trade Practices Commission in 1991. The two organisations were combined to form the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission in 1995. Professor Fels retired from the ACCC at the end of June and took up the position of Dean of the newly- established Australian and New Zealand School of Government with its headquarters at the University of Melbourne. Professor Fels will speak on the topic, "The Future of Competition Law" at 6.30pm in Room 107 of the McKinnon Building (Bldg 67 at the University of Wollongong).
