Allan Sefton Memorial Lecture
Sep 16, 2003
The Allan Sefton Memorial Lecture will be held this evening (Tuesday 16 September) at 6.30pm in the UniCentre Function Room 1. A poster display and refreshments will be held earlier from 6pm. The annual lecture is held in recognition of Dr Allan Sefton's contributions to the conservation of the environment in the Illawarra. The lecture this year will be given by research scientist, Dr Richard Major, from the Australian Museum who will speak on "Welfare or Warfare: What controls the diversity of Back Yard Birds". Dr Major will speak about a number of research projects that have helped shed light on the factors which control the diversity of the birds that occupy the back yards of Wollongong and other Australian cities. He will talk about the common or garden Currawong and its taste for berries and bird eggs, the dark side of the Miner, and the much-maligned Myna. The talk will also include observations of back yard bird habits by local residents. For further information contact Sandra Quin on 4221 4134.
