Artists and designers invited to beat their own drum
Sep 18, 2003
Artists and graphic designers in the Illawarra are invited to attend a free workshop at the University next Tuesday 23 September, given by the Australian Graphic Design Association (AGDA). This is the inaugural 'regional speaker tour' to come to Wollongong. Titled 'Beat Your Own Drum', the workshop presents a night of inspirational stories of one and two man studios. It also includes guest speaker Matthew Remphrey from Parallax in Adelaide. Matthew previously held the position of Creative Manager at Ian Kidd Design where he won numerous national and international design awards. In July 2001 Matthew decided to try his hand at business ownership by opening his own consultancy. Parallax has already shown that it will be a force to be reckoned with. Joining Mathew are Frank and Emilie from Parisydneytokyo, an art/design duo who have created quite a buzz of late appearing everywhere from Desktop to Monument Magazine. They spread their time between designing products and exhibiting in Paris, Sydney and Tokyo. Rounding out the line-up is Andrew Johnstone from designiskinky who, with the help of a few friends, turned a hair-brained scheme into a global web community boasting some 500,000 hits/day and an annual conference attracting 3,000 designers and sponsors the likes of diesel. Date: Tuesday, September 23, 2003. Venue: Faculty of Creative Arts, Building 25 Room 128, University of Wollongong, North Wollongong. Time: 5.45pm for s 6.00pm start.
