Knowledge management helps to set the right standards
Sep 19, 2003
The Knowledge Management Committee of Standards Australia is meeting at the University of Wollongong on Monday 22 September. The committee will lead the third annual workshop on knowledge management which will attract many local industry representatives. It is being hosted by UOW's School of Economics and Information Systems. and will cover a range of developments in knowledge management including the new Australian Standard. In combination with this event, a Commerce Alumni Breakfast will be held at which two of the committee members are speaking - James Thomson and David Rymer. Mr Thomson is a Project Manager from the Management and Business Group of Standards Australia International while Mr Rymer represents the Law Council of Australia on the Standards Committee. The breakfast will be held at the University's restaurant, Food Re-Thought, from 7.30am to 9am, Monday 22 September. The day will also feature the launch of a new book called "Australian Studies in Knowledge Management". The contributing editors are Associate Professor Helen Hasan from Information Systems at the University of Wollongong and Meliha Handzic who is a senior lecturer in Information Systems and inaugural leader of the knowledge management research group (kmRg) at the School of Information Systems, Technology and Management, University of New South Wales. Professor Hasan said organisations were often overloaded with information and technology and were seeking ways to deal with crisis after crisis without really knowing what would work or where they were going. She said the book's focus on knowledge management suggested that organisations step back and take a holistic view of where they were and what it was they were trying to do. Media please note: The workshop will run from 9.30am to 4.30pm on Monday. The best filming/photo opportunity would be at midday on Monday as this is the time for the book launch. Workshop and book launch venue: UniCentre Function Room number 1, University of Wollongong. Further information: Contact Associate Professor Helen Hasan on (02) 4221 3757.
