Wollongong plays host to Duke of Edinburgh Study Tour group

A Study Group, consisting of international delegates participating in the Ninth Annual Duke of Edinburgh Commonwealth Study Conference, will arrive in Wollongong tomorrow (Friday 24 October). The ACT/Illawarra Study Group members come from a range of countries including the United Kingdom, Canada, South Africa, India, New Zealand and Tonga. As part of their South Coast visit, group members are visiting the University of Wollongong, as well as Nowra, Booderee National Park, the Wreck Bay indigenous community, BHP, Port Kembla and Five Islands Brewery. The ACT/Illawarra Study Group is part of a 200-strong contingent of future leaders from 30 Commonwealth countries who are spending a week in communities throughout Australia and New Zealand as part of the conference. Conference members have been split into 14 Study Groups and each will report their findings to a final session in Sydney on October 28 and October 29 to Her Royal Highness, Princess Anne. The theme for this year's conference is "People First in the Global Community". Those participating in the study groups are drawn from the different areas of union, business and government/community organisations. Media please note: The Study Group will arrive at the University of Wollongong tomorrow (Friday 24 October) at 9.30am to Room 304, Administration Building (Bldg 36), for several presentation events. From 11.20am the group will be taken on site visits to the University's Smart Foods Centre and to the Telecommunications and Information Technology Research Institute. The group will receive an official welcome from the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Gerard Sutton, at 1pm at the McKinnon Dining Room, Level 2, McKinnon Building (Bldg 67).
