Annual town and gown networking event and lecture
Nov 07, 2003
The Graduate School of Business and Professional Development at the University of Wollongong will conduct its annual Town and Gown networking event and lecture on Thursday 13 November from 5pm. As well as providing a networking opportunity for local business people and students, the event will include a lecture by Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in NSW, Mr Nicholas Cowdery QC who will be speaking on "The Role and Function of the DPP - Myths and Realities". Mr Cowdery has been the Director of the DDP in NSW since 1994 and is an Adviser on Human Rights Issues to the Law Council of Australia. This annual event celebrates and recognises the close links that the Business School has developed with the Illawarra Business community. Local business people, including members of the local legal sector will have the opportunity to meet and network with students of the Business School in an informal setting. In previous years, this event has been important in providing students with the opportunity to inform local business people about the kind of hands-on research they are carrying out and to approach interested business people about undertaking work placed assignments either as part of their program of study or as part of a more general work experience opportunity. Employers have also found the event worthwhile in terms of meeting graduating business students who are interested in staying on and pursuing a career in the Illawarra. The Town and Gown event will also include the presentation of several academic awards. Members of the local community are welcome to attend the event. For more information, please contact Jenny Reynolds at The Graduate School of Business and Professional Development on 4221 5522 or email jennifer@uow.edu.au by November 12. Media note: The event will start at 5pm in the foyer of the McKinnon Bld with networking etc for the first hour leading up to the short lecture by Mr Cowdery at 6pm - he will then take questions from guests.
