University of Wollongong Wins Silver

The NSW Government tonight recognised University of Wollongong with the Silver Green Globe Award for their commitment to reduce greenhouse gases, the NSW Minister for Energy and Utilities, Frank Sartor, has announced. "These awards recognise the achievements in saving energy and greenhouse gases, which is good for business and great for the environment," Mr Sartor said. "By implementing a large number of energy efficiency projects across their properties,University of Wollongong have saved $220,548 per annum on bills while reducing 2,647tonnes of CO2 each year. "This is the same as eliminating the emissions from 588 cars each year. "Along with 17 other outstanding companies, they have shown good management by puttingin place measures which save money from energy efficiencies. "Partners in the Government's Energy Smart Business (ESB) Program reduce greenhouse gas emissions by using energy more efficiently. The benefits are also delivered through considerable savings off energy bills each year. "University of Wollongong join other outstanding Energy Smart Green Globe winners suchas Amcor, Qantas, the Commonwealth Bank of Australia and Arnott's Ltd, who have allimplemented similar practical environmental solutions. "The Silver award was presented at a ceremony at Parliament House last night to recognisethe breadth of sustainable energy solutions implemented by NSW companies. "The Energy Smart Business Program has been an amazing success. Across NSW we arenow saving 220 businesses over $26 million dollars a year on energy bills and cuttinggreenhouse emissions by over 440,000 tonnes per annum. "The total reduction is like taking almost 98,000 cars off NSW's roads for good. "I urge other NSW businesses to improve their bottom line and their environmentalperformance by using energy more efficiently,he said.
