Software engineering expert to speak

NASA/West Virginia University Software Engineering Research Chair, Dr Tim Menzies, will be at the University of Wollongong on Friday December 12 for the Decision Systems Laboratory's third annual workshop. The 2003 free workshop will explore how businesses can establish and maintain business-to-business (B2B) 'anywhere anytime' relationships. Supply chain efficiencies, e-commerce technologies and e-markets will be discussed, as well as how to use these to deliver value for businesses. The workshop will discuss a variety of application domains including online trading marketplaces, B2B e-commerce technologies, fleet management, crew rostering, supply-chain optimisation, and industrial planning and scheduling. Dr Menzies has worked with NASA on software testing with commercial organisations on object-orientated systems and expert systems. Other speakers include Professor Bill Havens (Director of the Intelligent Systems Laboratory at Vancouver's Simon Fraser University and CEO of Canada's ConstraintWorks); Maria Palazzolo (CEO of EAN Australia); Dr John Gattorna (Graduate School of Business and Professional Development at UOW and Accenture's Managing Partner for supply chain practice in Southern Asia);Phil Scott (Head of UOW's School of Management, Marketing and Employment Relations); Maurice Sinclair (CEO of the Logistics Bureau Group); Kim Winter (Managing Director of Logistics Recruitment Solutions); and Professor Aditya Ghose (Director of UOW's Decision Systems Laboratory). The Decision Systems Laboratory (DSL) is an interdisciplinary group of academics, postdoctoral researchers and research students from the University of Wollongong. DSL is a university-funded research program for those with an interest in exploring the technological issues associated with complex information systems.
