New Steel City racer to be unveiled

Nov 27, 2003

The University of Wollongong's world champion Steel City Racer team will be seeking a hat-trick of Australasian Formula SAE-A titles in South Australian from 4-7 December.

The team, which won its second successive Australasian title in Melbourne last December before winning the international division in Detroit in the United States in May, has built a new car that improves in the winning design from the last two years.

The team is made up of UOW students studying Mechanical engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Commerce. The new Steel City racer will compete against cars from other universities in the competition run by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) - Australasia. The competition is based on a series of design, engineering, performance and endurance categories.

The team will unveil their new car for the media at the University on Monday, 1 December at 10.30am.

MEDIA PARKING DETAILS: Please proceed to the visitors carpark at the Administration Building (36). The unveiling will take place on the laws immediately south of the Administration Building.
