International Week (August 2-6) countdown Canada's recognisable icon - the red maple leaf - will be popping up around campus on Thursday, August 5 when The Centre for Canadian-Australian Studies, in association with the University of Wollongong's International Week, will present an 'All Canada Day'. The day will celebrate Canadian study, exchange programs and literature, and will feature a variety of accomplished and award-winning authors. The events will begin with 'Study in Canada' information booths and sessions, promoting the value and special experience of studying abroad in Canada. Manager of Academic Relations and the Canadian Education Centre at the Canadian High Commission, Mr Tony McKittrick, will be present along with UOW's Director of the Centre for Canadian-Australian Studies, Associate Professor Gerry Turcotte. There will also be representatives from the International and Study Abroad programs at the sessions. As 'All Canada Day' progresses, all invited dignitaries, authors, academics and members of the public will be able to attend a reception, sponsored by the Wollongong UniShop, where there will be an opportunity to purchase the novels of the featured Canadian authors who will be present at the Canadian Writers Night that evening. Authors will include Andy Quan, David Reiter, Yuko Shibata and Gerry Turcotte, whose new book Border Crossings will be launched by the Consul-General of Canada. Roch Carrier's latest book entitled 'A Little Bit of Witchcraft: Patriots in the New Land of Writing', will also be launched on the day by the Dean of Arts at UOW, Professor Andrew Wells. With readings and refreshments, performances and presentations, 'All Canada Day' is sure to be a memorable literary and cultural experience.
