Long Gallery art award and book exhibition on display

The University of Wollongong's Faculty of Creative Arts will present the 15th UniCentre Annual Acquisitive Art Award tomorrow (Thursday September 2), commencing at 12.30pm in the faculty's Long Gallery. Prize categories include two-dimensional art, three-dimensional art, photography and the Yang Sheng-An Memorial Art Prize. The Yang Sheng-An Memorial Art Prize is to honour the memory of the UOW student and artist, "Victor" Yang Sheng-An, who tragically drowned while surfing at East Corrimal beach in December, 2002. An additional $500 has been granted from the University's Office of Community and Partnerships and the UOW Postgraduate Association (WUPA) for the most exceptional painting in oils, acrylics or watercolour that explores the theme of 'Spirit and Nature'. Victor's family recently travelled to Wollongong from Taiwan to contribute $10,000 towards this art prize.Artwork will be on display until September 17. Also opening tomorrow at the Long Gallery is 'Undercover', an exhibition of artist books by students and staff from the UOW Faculty of Creative Arts and the South Australian School of Arts, University of South Australia.The artist book program was started about 12 years ago by Liz Jeneid and has been a course that has encouraged and attracted students, not only from visual arts, but also from other disciplines such as writing and music.
