New creative plays set down for October

***'Terrorism' and 'Song of Survival'; two plays in repertory by graduating UOW students
'Terrorism', written by the Presnyakov Brothers and directed
by Chris Mead*, is a black comedy about world order breaking
down. Written in Russia prior to the events of September 11,
2001 and first performed in Moscow in 2002, this will be an
Australian premiere presentation that has been labelled a
'feast for the mind and the senses'. Note: This play
is for adults only as it contains confronting scenes.

Mead from UOW's School of Music and Drama has recently been
awarded one of two Play Development Fellowships from the Australia
Council for the Arts. Chris will be involved in an outreach
young writers program in Australia and will also be working

Performed on: October 14, 16, 20 and 22. 'Song of Survival' is directed by Ms Linda Nicholls-Gidley and is based on an autobiographical book by Helen Collin. It is the story of how prisoners-of-war in Japanese camps used music to sustain themselves and ultimately survive. Performed on: October 15, 19, 21 and 23. For bookings: call (02) 4221 4889 ***Theatre production - 'Surface Tension' 'Surface Tension' is an exploration of what is destroyed in a relentless race for the future. Critical Mass Theatre is an Illawarra performance group that aims to foster new performative styles in the region, while also creating a pertinent and political theatrical voice. Partly funded by the UOW's Faculty of Creative Arts, the company aims to shift the boundaries of performance and is presenting a new, explosive production of physical theatre, video and sound at Project Contemporary Artspace (255 Keira St Wollongong).
