From an automatic shower to an ATM for the blind

A showcase of new age, technology-driven student products and projects will on be display tomorrow (Friday 22 October) when the University of Wollongong's School of Electrical, Computer and Telecommunications Engineering hosts its 7th Annual Trade Fair. The projects are from second and third year Bachelor of Engineering students enrolled in Engineering Design and Management and Mechatronics Design, as well as second year students enrolled in the Bachelor of Internet Science and Technology. Projects fall into the categories of 'Personal Safety or Security in the Community: Support for the Disabled' and 'Hardware and Software Projects that will benefit Australian Society'. The wide variety of student inventions will include a Meter for Environmental Safety, an ATM for the Blind, an Aware Walker, Automatic Shower, Sensor Activation Tiles, Automated Timetabling System, Online Paint Program, Australian Drink Cooler, Auto Eye and an Aged Care Monitor. Companies including BlueScope Steel, Tycan Australia Pty Ltd and Spruson&Ferguson have donated cash prizes, as have UOW's Faculty of Informatics and the School of Electrical, Computer and Telecommunications Engineering. Awards will be presented on the day for Most Popular Display.
