Ceremony to recognise UOW's growing links with PALMS Australia

A formal signing ceremony will take place at the University of Wollongong tomorrow (noon, Thursday 9 December) to acknowledge the collaborative partnership between UOW and the charitable organisation of PALMS Australia. UOW and Palms Australia have entered into a partnership on a series of initiatives of mutual interest in research teaching and community service in Australia and overseas. Recent initiatives have included: o A joint research project funded by the Faculty of Arts and Education on the experiences of Volunteers Abroad o Submission of an Australian Research Council Linkage Project with PALMS Australia o The participation of UOW in a consortia led by PALMS Australia in a tender process for the provision of services for the Australian Volunteer Program funded by AusAID o The signing ceremony at UOW tomorrow to acknowledge the growing partnership PALMS Australia is a charitable organisation that sends Australian volunteers to work in host communities in the Asia Pacific, the Middle East and Africa. The volunteers work to alleviate poverty and develop just and sustainable communities for a peaceful world. The Dean of Arts, Professor Andrew Wells; the Dean of Education, Professor Barry Harper; and PALMS' Executive Director, Roger O'Halloran, will participate in the signing ceremony.
