MEDIA ALERT: Opening of $15 million accommodation facilities

The Chancellor of the University of Wollongong, Mr Michael Codd, AC, will officially open the new $15 million student accommodation facilities at Campus East alongside the Innovation Campus tomorrow (Friday August 12). [Media please note: While the Chancellor will perform the official opening at 6pm a special photo/filming opportunity for media has been organised on the site of the new facilities between midday to 1pm. The Director of Buildings and Grounds, Mr Bruce Flint, will be available on the site for interviews and rooms will be opened to allow filming and photographs to be undertaken. This is not the first completed building for the Innovation Campus but will play a significant role as the Innovation Campus develops] Centrepiece of the expanded student accommodation is a new four-storey building with 180 bedrooms, student lounges, multipurpose rooms and support facilities. The expansion also includes the construction of a new wing to the existing Accommodation Services Administration Building which provides additional bedrooms, computer laboratories, bathroom facilities and multi-purpose rooms. A student terrace has also been provided on the ground floor with provision for a future coffee shop and gymnasium facilities. The new student facilities are seen as critical in supporting the future expansion of the University's major project - the $300 million Innovation Campus. Students will be a linchpin of the creative community of researchers, innovative companies and organisations that will make up the Innovation Campus.
