A penalty shoot out with a difference -- robots doing the kicking
Oct 20, 2005
A soccer penalty shoot out with a difference will be conducted at the University of Wollongong tomorrow (Friday 21 October) when robots take to the field to do the kicking. The School of Information Technology and Computer Science will conduct its robot builders competition. Eleven teams of students have been building Lego robots to compete in this year's competition. The task set for the competition is a penalty shoot out. Each robot will be given 10 shots at the goal. A ball will be placed on a line across the field. The robot will be placed so that the ball is between it and the end of the field. The robot has to find the ball, find the goal and then kick the ball through the goal. For each shot, the ball will be placed in a different place from directly in front of the goal to near the sides of the field. Each team has a 15 minute time slot in which to compete. The team that shoots the most goals wins. When: 2pm, Friday 21 October Where: Room 128, Building 3 Further information: Associate Professor Phillip McKerrow, phone: (02) 4221 3771
