UOW to host senior executives from universities across Australia

The University of Wollongong will play host for the first time to over 40 Deputy and Pro Vice-Chancellors from across the country this week (Thursday 27 July) when the Australian Vice-Chancellors’ Committee (AVCC) holds its Deputy and Pro Vice-Chancellors’ research meeting. UOW Vice-Chancellor and President of the AVCC, Professor Gerard Sutton, and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research), Professor Margaret Sheil will welcome the delegation who will meet to discuss a variety of topics including briefings from key agencies such as the AVCC Secretariat, the Australian Research Council (ARC), the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) and the Department of Education and Training (DET). The group will also discuss different and new funding streams, making research accessible with the Council of Australian Libraries and learn more about global research opportunities. The meeting will also include an ANSTO nuclear reactor tour. The AVCC acts as a consultative and advisory body for all university affairs, preparing statements on major issues and making submissions to public inquiries of interest to the university sector. It seeks to influence politicians and opinion leaders in order to secure the best possible outcomes from government funding and regulatory decisions. Current membership comprises the Vice-Chancellors of 38 Australian universities.
