Federal Government awards UOW $700,000 "scorecard" grant

Sep 06, 2006

The Federal Government has today announced funding of almost $700,000 to the University of Wollongong (UOW) which will allow the University to develop a computerised management package enabling UOW to track its overall performance in a single glance.

The Vice-Principal (Administration), Mr Chris Grange, said the graphic representation would allow key stakeholders to see in an instant how the University was performing across all its key areas such as teaching, research, finance, staffing and general operational matters.

Mr Grange said the development of the package could take about 18 months to complete and was being undertaken as a joint venture with two outside companies -- Cognos and Capgemini.

"When completed this will be a fantastic new resource for the University and will help further build on UOW's already strong managerial track record," Mr Grange said.

Commenting on today's announcement, Illawarra based Liberal Senator, Concetta Fierravanti-Wells, complimented the University for its success in receiving $695,500 under the Federal Government’s Workplace Productivity Programme (WPP) for its “Peformance Measured Scorecard Project".

“This grant is further recognition by the Federal Government that the University of Wollongong is a world class learning facility. I am delighted that the University has once again been recognised for its outstanding work,” Senator Fierravanti-Wells said.

“The funds will be applied to develop a comprehensive integrated performance scorecard that provides a University wide perspective and drills down to individual faculties and departments, allowing the University to measure performance from a variety of perspectives and link long-term strategy to short-term actions,” Senator Fierravanti-Wells said.

She said that a total of 47 WPP projects have been approved nationwide contributing a further $50 million to the higher education sector to assist universities achieve financial and operational efficiencies and strengthen their capacity to implement workplace change.
