Community the big winner in projects announcement

The six winning recipients of the University-Community Engagement Projects will be announced at a ceremony to be held at the University of Wollongong tomorrow (Friday 22 September). The Community Engagement Grants Scheme was introduced in 2005 to encourage and support collaborative University-community projects, which have mutually beneficial outcomes. The scheme provides funding to UOW staff and students for projects that are collaborative, consistent with the University’s Community Engagement Strategic Plan and have a clear community benefit. Recipients and guests will be welcomed by Vice-Principal (International), Mr Jim Langridge and a background to the CE Grants Scheme will be presented by the Manger of the Office of Community and Partnerships at UOW, Monique Harper-Richardson.Community Engagement Committee Chairperson, Mr David Morgan Williams, will announce the successful projects. Projects that will receive funding assistance will include developing community language schools’ resources in the Illawarra, learning and teaching creatively, introducing a UOW web-casting service, prioritising economic development in Shellharbour, providing disadvantaged children with free access to UOW’s Science Centre and Planetarium and a workshop collaboration between Guides NSW and the Faculty of Engineering. Project leaders from the six winning projects will present brief summaries of what they plan to undertake.
