University and ITC lead the way as employers of choice for women
Feb 27, 2007
The University of Wollongong (UOW) and its largest subsidiary, Illawarra Technology Corporation (ITC), have both earnt an Employer of Choice for Women citation from the Federal Government’s Equal Opportunity for Women in the Workplace Agency. A total of 131 organisations across Australia have been named on the agency’s list. “From policies to attract and retain older workers to increasing the representation of women at executive levels and helping employees maintain work/life balance, these organisations are using the family friendly title to set themselves apart from their competition in the hope of snaring the best and brightest talent,” the agency said. The University’s Director of Employment Equity and Diversity, Lynne Wright, said the citation reflected the University’s commitment to developing a range of programs to support women in their career development and progression and managing their work life balance. She said there was little doubt that the citation would help improve the recruitment of women at all levels across the University. The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Wollongong, Professor Gerard Sutton, said this was no isolated success for either UOW or the Australian-based operations of the ITC Group of Companies as both have been named in the agency’s list for up to five successive years. Professor Sutton praised the efforts undertaken by UOW’s Employment Equity and Diversity Committee and ITC’s Diversity and Equity Committee in helping to achieve the outstanding result. “There is no doubt that the recent enhancement of our parental leave provisions for Australian-based staff under the Standard Terms and Conditions, contributed significantly to our successful submission for 2006, according to the CEO and Managing Director of the ITC Group of Companies, Mr James Langridge.
