University to showcase its excellence to high school careers advisers

The University of Wollongong will welcome 100 high school careers advisers and TAFE counsellors to a “Showcase of Excellence” event tomorrow (Tuesday March 27). The careers advisers and TAFE counsellors are coming from across NSW and the ACT with representatives from Sydney (including Sutherland and South Western Sydney), and the Illawarra and Shoalhaven regions. The Showcase of Excellence is a day of informative presentations about the special qualities of the University of Wollongong and the opportunities that UOW provides for its students. Presentations across the day include: • Excellence in e-learning 9.05-9.35am, Professor Sandra Wills, Director, CEDIR • Excellence in producing competitive graduates 9.35-10am, Martin Smith, Manager, UOW Careers Service • Excellence in student opportunities: 10-10.45am, nine student speakers, each representing a UOW Faculty • Excellence in Medical Research: 11.30am-midday, Professor John Bremner (Medicinal chemistry) • Current climate of the tertiary sector Midday-1pm, Professor John Patterson, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Operations) • Excellence in Medicine: 2.15-2.35pm, Three students from the Graduate School of Medicine will talk about their background, their application experience and the medicine curriculum The event will be held in the University Hall between 9am-1pm. Guests will then attend lunch with UOW senior executive staff at 1pm in the UniCentre Function Rooms 1-4, (Level 2, Building 11).
