Higher Degree Research Conference: Cutting edge research by higher degree students at the University of Wollongong will be showcased with the students’ industry partners and the community in general invited to join other members of the University to see the results of the students’ research efforts. More than 200 people are expected to attend the conference which will feature research in the themes of Good Health, New Methods and Materials, Our Social Fabric and Reflections on Society. The Keynote Speaker at the event will be Associate Professor Marie Ranson from the School of Biological Sciences who recently won the Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Research Supervision.
When and where: The conference will be held in the UniCentre Function Rooms (Bldg 11) and will run from 10am – 4pm but the best time for media to attend is just before 3pm when the winners will be announced and awarded.

A Smorgasbord of Educational Technologies: A one-day mini conference to be held at UOW will present an overview of the many different ways educational technologies are currently being used at the University of Wollongong to enhance eTeaching and eLearning and to stimulate further innovative use of these technologies. Presentations will be made by researchers as well as academics who are incorporating technologies in their teaching and learning and researching their own practice.
When and where: The conference will be held in the Hope Theatre (Bldg 40) and will run from 9am – 4pm but the best time for media to attend is during the lunch break from 12-1pm. Filming opportunities also exist at the panel discussion from 2.15 – 3.15pm

National Indigenous Games Opening Ceremony: A range of Indigenous sporting celebrities and university students from across the country will converge on Wollongong this week (26 – 29 September) to participate in the 12th annual National Indigenous Tertiary Education Student Games at UOW. The Games have become a major event in the Indigenous university student calendar that started in 1996 as a joint-class project for 13 students and now attracts hundreds from a range of institutions each year. The opening ceremony will feature special guest, Tony Mundine, who is the father and trainer of World Super Middleweight Champion, Anthony Mundine. Tony was a middleweight contender during the 1970s and during his career held Australian national titles in the Middleweight, Light Heavyweight and Heavyweight divisions. Representatives from UOW, Qantas and the Aboriginal community will also be in attendance.
When and where: The Opening Ceremony will take place at 6pm on the Duckpond Lawn (around the UniCentre/UniBar area)
