Memorial garden for body donors

Twenty-seven people have donated their bodies to the University of Wollongong for medical and scientific research and a further 146 have joined the register since the University launched its Body Donation program in mid-2006.

On Monday, 8 October the University will acknowledge the selfless generosity of our donors, who are making such a significant contribution to the training of the next generation of doctors, nurses and other health professionals through the Faculty of Health and Behavioural Sciences and the Graduate School of Medicine at UOW.

This Ceremony of Appreciation marks the inauguration of our special donors memorial garden at Lakeside Memorial Park. The garden, donated by Lakeside Memorial Park, will be a permanent reminder of our donors’ invaluable contribution to UOW in particular and medical science in general. UOW Vice-Chancellor Professor Gerard Sutton and Invocare Australia CEO Mr Richard Davis will unveil a plaque at the memorial garden.

Families of donors and people on the register have been invited to join UOW staff and student representatives at the ceremony. More than 140 people will be attending.

The media is invited to cover the ceremony. There will be opportunities to interview UOW Vice-Chancellor Professor Gerard Sutton, the Body Donation Program co-ordinator Darryl McAndrew and UOW graduate Anna Harris, who will give a presentation on the importance of the Body Donation program to students.
