Herald’s economics editor presents public lecture

Economics Editor of The Sydney Morning Herald and economics columnist for The Melbourne Age, Mr Ross Gittins, will present the 2007 Economic and Social Policy Public Lecture at the University of Wollongong tomorrow (Friday 19 October).

The topic of the free public lecture, which forms part of the Economic and Social Policy Lecture Series, is “Can old economists learn new tricks?”.

Mr Gittins’ journalistic experience includes stints in the parliamentary press galleries in Sydney and Canberra. Before joining The Sydney Morning Herald, he worked as an auditor with the national chartered accounting firm Touche Ross & Co. In 1993 he won the Citibank Pan Asia award for excellence in finance journalism.

He holds a bachelor of commerce from the University of Newcastle and is an associate of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia. Mr Gittins has been a Nuffield Press Fellow at Wolfson College, Cambridge, and a Journalist-in-Residence at the Department of Economics of the University of Melbourne.

He has written or contributed to various books and periodicals, and is often interviewed for radio and television.
