Senior Thai Minister to visit Wollongong

Thailand’s Minister of Tourism and Sports, Dr Suvit Yodmani, is on a three-day visit to Australia this week and Wollongong has been included on the minister’s itinerary.
The minister, accompanied by a party of 15 other Thai officials, arrives in Sydney today and will travel to the University of Wollongong tomorrow (Friday October 19). The visitors will then return to Sydney before heading to Canberra for the last leg of their trip to Australia.
Dr Suvit is one of Thailand’s most respected environmentalists and academics. Dr Suvit, a Fellow of the University of Wollongong, will deliver a lecture entitled, “Low Emission: Thai Tourism” while in Wollongong.
Wollongong has one of the highest proportions of Thai student populations of any university in Australia with 369 now studying at UOW and Wollongong College Australia. UOW also has a range of teaching and research links with Thailand.
Senior UOW staff, including the Vice-Chancellor Professor Gerard Sutton, key community representatives and Thai students will be among the guests to welcome the Thai minister.
Date and time of ministerial visit to Wollongong: 10am Friday October 19. The minister’s lecture is due to begin at 10.30am and finish at 11.45am.
