Safe Work Australia Week

Safe Work Australia week is a national event developed to focus attention on workplace safety issues around Australia. It aims to encourage all working Australians, particularly employers, to get involved and concentrate on safety in their workplace to reduce death, injury and disease. A range of activities will take place on campus during the week as part of the event.

Monday: Guest Speaker John Collins from RiskChase will deliver a presentation at the official launch breakfast. RiskChase is a multi-disciplinary organisation providing risk management advice to a variety of major organisations. Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Operations), Professor John Patterson, will be in attendance along with Director of Personnel Services, Mr John Steele. They will converge in Bldg 2 (Engineering Extension) Rm G02 at 9.30am for an official photo.

Wednesday: UOW’s Occupational Health and Safety Unit in collaboration with the University Recreation and Aquatic Centre (URAC) will hold a Health Expo for staff, allowing them to receive information on a range of professional health services. Services will include free massages, nutrition advice, health checks, posture analysis, healthy cooking demonstrations, a yoga workshop and stress management advice. The Expo will be held in the URAC Sports Lounge from 10am - 2pm.

Health Sciences student research presentations

The University of Wollongong’s School of Health Sciences will hold its annual Student Research Presentations event on Monday. Research topics on display will include food pricing, quality of life and vitamin deficiency after bariatric surgery, food allergies, childhood obesity, dietary management of children with cancer and high protein vs high carbohydrate diets.

A record 90 guests are expected to attend the event where 36 students completing the Bachelor and Master of Science in the areas of Nutrition, Dietetics and Exercise Rehabilitation will present their research.

When and where: The best time for photo/filming opportunities will be the morning tea and poster viewing from 11 – 11.30am in UniCentre Function Room 3, Bldg 11, University of Wollongong
