NSW’s biggest Pink Breakfast at UOW
30 Oct 2007 | Renee Criddle
Changing the world – one breakfast at a time.
That’s the theme for this year’s Pink Ribbon Breakfast at the University of Wollongong – a sold out event that has attracted 550 staff, students and community members. Organisers believe it will be the biggest breakfast to be held in the state.
The breakfast (Wednesday 31 October) is part of an overall campaign to raise breast cancer awareness and help fund research. Organiser Holly Tootell from the Faculty of Informatics is hoping that UOW’s breakfast will raise $15,000.
Since the Pink Ribbon Breakfast initiative was launched in 2003, nearly 7,500 volunteer hosts around Australia have hosted breakfasts and together have raised in excess of $4 million.
Participants are urged to ‘think pink’ when dressing and decorating their breakfast tables.
There will be a number of raffles and auctions on the day as well as presentations from Professor Sandra Jones from UOW’s Centre for Health Initiatives and Dr Margaret Gardiner from the Exercise Science and Rehabilitation Centre.
This year’s breakfast has attracted sponsorship and support from a range of organisations including Go Hire, Primavera Flowers, UniCentre and Food Re Thought.
When: Wednesday 31 October from 7.30am – 9am
Where: University Hall, University of Wollongong
*Media please note: There are some extravagant pink table decoration plans in place which will make for great photo/filming opportunities. Guest speakers will also be available for interviews.
