NSW Governor to launch Diversity Week at UOW

The Governor of NSW, Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir, will officially launch Diversity Week at the University of Wollongong on Monday 31 March.
Following the launch, the Federal Member for Throsby, Ms Jennie George, will open a Faculty of Creative Arts exhibition entitled, ‘Dialogue in Diversity’ by artist Annette Tzavaras.
The Governor will be officially welcomed to the University by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Gerard Sutton; Federal Member for Throsby, Ms Jennie George; and UOW’s Director of Employment, Equity and Diversity Ms Lynne Wright.
The launch will include a Welcome to Country by Indigenous Elder, Mr Roy Kennedy.
The main aim of Diversity Week is to celebrate differences at UOW – including abilities, disabilities, sexuality, ethnicity and race, gender and age.
Other activities in the week will include an exhibition of art in the McKinnon Building from artists who are part of the Department of Ageing, Disability and Home Care; a ‘Law v Art’ debate; an Indigenous art tour; a comedy night with a multicultural theme with comedians including Tahir, Hung Le, Nish and Clint Paddison; a performance by the Dukes of Windsor at the UniBar; sign language classes in the Library; a display of human rights material by the Faculty of Education; a market day on the Duck Pond Lawn; a blind cricket match; a film festival; a social justice launch; and as part of Catholic World Youth Day the cross and icon will be visiting the campus.
