Chancellor’s Awards celebrate community spirit

UOW will recognise the achievements of the Illawarra community and alumni members at the Chancellor’s Awards for Achievement in Community Service.
The awards, established in 2007 by Chancellor Michael Codd AC, aim to recognise the personal contributions UOW alumni and others make to the enrichment of their community and advancement of their society.
In recognition of their significant contribution, $5,000 will be donated to a charity or non-profit group of the winner’s choice.
“The University has a special relationship with its community,” Mr Codd said.
“The community has always been supportive of the University and, in turn, the University works hard to repay the support and faith our community demonstrates to us,” he said.
Last year, award winners included the Illawarra Cancer Carers, who donated more than $270,000 to UOW for cancer research, and Paul Wand who received the alumni award for his significant long-term commitment and contribution to disadvantaged Indigenous communities across Australia.
This year, up to four awards will be presented in two categories, one for UOW graduates and one for community members who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in the area of community service.
Community members are invited to nominate those who have made a significant contribution in the area of community service or who have contributed significantly to the University. Nominations can be for groups or individuals.
The awards will be presented at a special event hosted by the Chancellor in October.
Nominations close on 31 July. For more information, guidelines and nomination forms visit www.uow.edu.au/about/community/chancellorsaward or email community@uow.edu.au
