Leaping ahead: NRG dancers are cheering champs

UOW’s on-campus dance studio, NRG Studios, has blitzed their first state cheerleading championships – taking our first place in five categories as well as a number of other awards.
The NRG ‘Energize’ cheerleading team competed against other top teams from around NSW and won five sections of the competition. The categories were Junior Cheerleading, Senior Cheerleading, Junior Pom Pom Dance, Youth Jazz and Senior Hip Hop.
NRG students also won two of the individual sections for ‘Best and most toe touches’ and ‘Best stand bow and arrow’. NRG were then placed second and third overall as Dance Champions, and Cheer Champions.
Studio principals Samantha Reis and Genevieve Anderson said they were surprised and excited about the results, especially as their team competed this year for the first time.
“The cheerleaders have been working hard all year for these results and are all extremely excited to see that their hard work pay off,” Reis said.
Reis and Anderson, both postgraduate students at UOW, established NRG at UOW in 2006. The studio continues to expand its profile in the community through appearances at local events and cultural festivals, as well as taking part in a range of dance and cheerleading competitions for pre-schoolers, children, students and adults.
