Julian Burnside to deliver 28th Kirby Public Lecture

Nationally respected human rights lawyer (Tampa, asylum seekers) Julian Burnside, QC, will present the 28th Kirby Public Lecture on Thursday 25 September.
All members of the community are welcome to attend this lecture entitled ‘Who’s afraid of human rights?’ organised through UOW’s Faculty of Arts.
Julian Burnside came to national prominence when he represented the trade unions in the national wharf dispute a decade ago in 1998.
The Kirby Lecture has been presented by figures of national standing since 1979 including Bob Hawke, John Hewson, Bill Kelty, Meg Lees, Simon Crean and Michael Kirby.
The Kirby Lectures were first delivered by the late Sir Richard Kirby. Sir Richard was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Letters from the University of Wollongong in 1984 and had a long association in the industrial relations sphere including his position as Chief Judge with the Commonwealth Court of Conciliation and Arbitration from 1956 to 1973.
Public lecture date and time: 6.30pm to 7.30pm on Thursday 25 September.
Where: Room 104, McKinnon Building (Bldg 67) University of Wollongong. Tea and coffee will be served in the foyer of the McKinnon Bldg following the lecture.
