Founder and CEO of ‘Youth Off The Streets’, Father Chris Riley, and former Australian Democrats and Labor politician, Cheryl Kernot, will be among speakers for the “Students 4 Students National Leadership Conference” to be held at the University of Wollongong from 27-30 September.
The four-day leadership conference will feature a range of workshops, a charity masquerade ball dinner as well as a ‘Walk4Water’ challenge along the Wollongong harbour coastline. It is being organised by the Centre of Student Engagement and Black Opal and is aimed at encouraging the leadership potential of students across Australia.
More than 100 students from across Australia are expected to attend the conference.
In the International Year of Sanitation, students are taking action to increase the number of people who have access to basic levels of sanitation and clean water in Timor-Leste. Members of the community are being urged to participate in the ‘Wideform Walk4Water’ to be held on Sunday 28 September at Stuart Park. The event will consist of a 2km family walk in the morning and a 5km afternoon walk with participants carrying buckets of water to simulate the struggles of millions worldwide in the simple collection of daily water.
The ‘Masquerade 4 Charity Ball’ will be held on Tuesday 30 September at 7pm at the Lagoon Restaurant. Funds from the ball will go to ‘Youth Off The Streets’ which supports chronically homeless and drug addicted young Australians.
A variety of other social events for participants will be held over the four-day period including hiking and skydiving, surfing lessons, watching movies under the stars and a visit to the Nan Tien Temple.
Confirmed speakers for the conference are Father Chris Riley, Cheryl Kernot, Ann Maree Huxley (CEO of Moss), Adrian D’Hage (author), Paul Smith (sports psychologist), Zac Zaharis (Everest climber) and James Castrission and Justin Jones (duo who kayaked from Australia to New Zealand).
