Environmental team launch on World Environment Day

The University of Wollongong will tomorrow (Friday June 5) officially launch its Environmental and Sustainability Initiatives (ESI) Unit which coincides with World Environment Day.

The event will provide an opportunity for visitors to find out more about the ESI Unit, the areas it covers and the issues with which it is dealing.

The unit has been established to support a cultural shift towards environmental sustainability. The environmental initiatives of the team involve sustained water, energy and emissions reduction, improved waste and recycling management and ecological systems.

Part of tomorrow’s activities will include a demonstration focusing on energy management at UOW and facilities will also be available for people to start recycling their old mobile phones. UOW has chosen to partner with the Australian Recycling Program, the Jane Goodall Institute, to recycle mobile phones.

Launch time: Midday, Friday June 5 Where: University Hall Foyer, Building 11
