The University of Wollongong’s Faculty of Education won a tender to host 18 students from The Hong Kong Institute of Education.

They are currently undertaking a six-week Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood Education) English Language Immersion Program.

The Early Childhood Program offers the Hong Kong students an opportunity to experience a mix of academic sessions supported by a variety of excursions and hands-on activities including tomorrow’s activity at the Short Street Occasional Child Care Centre.

The centre planted a traditional bush tucker garden which has involved the local community, the staff and children of the centre.

In recognition of this, tomorrow’s event includes a local aboriginal community leader performing a Welcome to Country, a traditional smoking ceremony and a performance on the didgeridoo.

Project Manager for UOW’s Early Years Program, Judy Daunt, said tomorrow’s activity was a wonderful opportunity to showcase the University’s partnership with local community services and the valuable Hong Kong programs UOW offers.
