UOW maintains its spot in top 2 per cent of world universities

Release of the 2009 World University Rankings has again shown the University of Wollongong to be in the top 2 per cent of the world’s 20,000 universities.

The latest announcement by The Times Higher Education – QS World University Rankings reinforces the top 2 per cent spot it also achieved in the Academic Ranking of World Universities by the Institute of Higher Education, Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

The Times Higher Education – QS World University Rankings have been running since 2004 and are among the highest profile global evaluations of comparative university quality.

UOW’s achievement in these rankings mirrors the five-star status ranks awarded to UOW in recent years in the independent Good Universities Guide.

UOW Vice-Chancellor, Professor Gerard Sutton, said there were always fluctuations from year to year within the rankings tables but UOW has consistently remained within the top 2 per cent tier.

“Our continued success in The Times Higher Education – QS World University Rankings is a tribute to the ongoing efforts of all our staff as well as to the University’s graduates,” Professor Sutton said.
