Wikis and blogs – how do such technologies support school teaching and learning opportunities?
Today’s education revolution includes the use of interactive whiteboards, personal laptops, wikis and blogs. But how do these technologies support teaching and learning opportunities in schools?
Associate Professor Lori Lockyer will discuss the changing nature of technologies in education in the next (and final for 2009) “Uni in the Brewery” presentation tomorrow (Wednesday 21 October).
Professor Lockyer is the Associate Dean in UOW’s Faculty of Education and has been researching educational technologies for more than a decade.
Some of her recent projects in the primary and secondary school settings have investigated teachers’ use of interactive whiteboards and students’ production of digital video news. She is currently involved in the web-based program that aims to teach parents nutrition and physical activity strategies called 'Time2bHealthy'.
“My research is in educational technology. I'm interested to see if, and how, technology can be used to help teachers teach and help students learn in schools and universities and for professional education and health education and promotion.
“I'm particularly interested in online learning as it has the potential to connect learners with information and other learners that they may not otherwise be able to access,” Professor Lockyer said.
Her presentation tomorrow evening, entitled “Ruben’s Wiki – Today’s educational opportunity? Tomorrow’s obsolescence”, will be presented in a trivia-style format, at the Five Islands Brewery (red lounge area).
This community engagement event from 5.30pm to 6.30pm is free and everyone is welcome to attend.
