UOW’s top research credentials confirmed by Jiao Tong rankings
The release of the highly-respected ‘Top 500’ Jiao Tong rankings has seen the University of Wollongong cement its position as one of the world’s top 2 per cent of research universities.
The Academic Ranking of World Universities by the Institute of Higher Education, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, is strongly weighted in favour of research. It is the sixth year these rankings have been conducted.
The Institute scans universities that have Nobel Laureates, field medals, highly cited researchers, or papers published in prestigious journals such as Nature or Science.
In addition, the institute scans major universities of every country with a significant number of articles indexed in major citation indices.
University of Wollongong Vice-Chancellor, Professor Gerard Sutton, said the ranking was testament to the University’s reputation as a research-intensive university.
“This is a fact reinforced with the findings of the recent Times High Education – QS World University Rankings and the release of the 2010 Good Universities Guide,” Professor Sutton said.
