Creative Arts Dean to feature on ABC-TV Arts program

May 23, 2006

University of Wollongong Creative Arts Dean, Professor Andrew Schultz, will figure prominently in an ABC-TV Arts program to air on Sunday 28 May.

Professor Schultz (currently on study leave) will feature in “Cantata Journey” by filmmaker Hart Cohen who is Associate Professor of Media Arts at the School of Communication Arts Centre for Cultural Research, University of Western Sydney.

“Cantata Journey” documents a unique intercultural event with the Ntaria Ladies Choir, an Aboriginal choir from Hermannsburg, Central Australia, triumphantly performing with the Sydney Symphony in the Cantata by Gordon Williams and Andrew Schultz, “Journey to Horseshoe Bend” at the Sydney Opera House filmed in May 2003.

The telecast of this film is exactly there years since the first and only performance of this Cantata and helps to celebrate this year’s Aboriginal Journey of Healing and Reconciliation Day.

Professor Cohen previously directed the documentary, “Mr Strehlow’s Films” for SBS-TV on the life and legacy of T.G.H. Strehlow. He is Chief Investigator of the Australian Research Council linkage research project on T.G.H. Strehlow’s memoire, “Journey To Horseshoe Bend”.
